    A treat: Charles Paris Mystery

I'm a late-comer to this series, discovering and greatly enjoying the season last year (set in Panto) - I think there have been lots so apologies if everyone knows and loves it already and I'm seriously late to the party

The latest season started last week

I really chuckle no end, some very deft comic writing, impeccably delivered by Bill Nighy (and others in the cast, notably Suzanne Burden).

If anyone doesn't know it, I recommend four half-hours in the company of the louche Charles Paris.
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Thanks for drawing my attention to this Caliban. I'm a big fan of Simon Brett's CP detective stories - well written, sardonically entertaining, deftly plotted (and short!).

I wonder how many Radio 3 listeners are increasingly discovering the delights of Radio 4. In our house, the latter replaced the former as our most listened-to radio channel some time ago.

Anything with Bill Nighy in is worth listening to IMO.

They're re-running an older series on 4 extra at 8pm weeknights just now. Bill Nighy always worth a listen.

A new one (well, new to me) on Radio 4 extra at the moment https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b070htsr - I love it. The cut-and-thrust between Nighy and Suzanna Burden as his wife is especially brilliant.

After the new series a few weeks ago (which I still haven’t got around to hearing - but it’s available for a year), a repeat for the terrific one where Paris/Nighy has a couple of roles in a production of Hamlet:

Bill Nighy stars as actor cum amateur sleuth Charles Paris in a dramatic murder mystery.

Daily this week at various times through the day on Radio 4 Extra

Bill Nighy / Charles Paris: one of the light in otherwise dark places wonders of R4.
