Not seen it and not interested in seeing it; but glad that the BBC has finally spent some 'mega-bucks' on a drama that has nothing to do with that fat-bottomed fraud Poliakoff.

I did watch it - the first episode was intriguing, I thought, but interest dissipated in the second. Not least due to the lead actor - I'm sure he's meant to be enigmatic or something but he comes across as limper than a damp rag. Amazing that he's being touted as the next James Bond - that would mark the death of the 007 franchise, I'd have thought.

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Absolutely - he's no Bond, no wayyyyyy -- he was pretty good as Sydney the vicar in Grantchester, and this strikes me as the same performance !

I’m guessing that the limpness of the character is going to be the beginning of a journey to ruthlessness. I could be wrong. So far I think it’s been ok, not much more than that.

If people think the the plot is difficult to follow it’s probably just as well that they didn’t watch the George Smiley series from the 70s.

Nicely said Sir....a man after my own heart as regards Poliakov....he must surely have some 'dirt' on someone to keep getting commissioned....knows where bodies are buried...

....as the mega bucks go....mega buck are leaking from the Beeb everyday of the week just in the way they do things, overdoing coverage in certain spheres, and over doing graphics and cgi....too many cameras....too many reporters , too many foriegn trips....

Quite. Can't imagine where that came from. He gave good psycopath in Happy Valley, but utterly wooden in War and Peace and, so far, here. Didn't watch the vicar thing. I think he does a lot on stage?

Who, beside myself Hmmmm....well I think you will agree, a lot of 007's weren't 007....and who would have believed Daniel Craig would have been OK before the fact....
....I have admit that I rarely (almost from accident really)sit down and watch an actual 007 film ; front to back (never oldies)....In fact my opinion is that they should finish/stop/make no more 007....

....I shall now have go and put names to faces to forfill your taskmaster task jlw....

The most charitable interpretation of his performance is that he's a troubled man trying to hide from all around him that he's being manipulated into joining the baddies. I thought his 'We can work with you' to the guy at the airport, who then bumped off his boss, was meant to be naive, rather than caluclated. Perhaps I'm being over-generous.

I quite agree that the whirlwind of locations is mind-spinning, and a pretty unnecessary and extravagant style of story-telling.

Roger Moore would qualify then - just to raise an eyebrow...

Oh I actually think Hiddleston would be ideal (assuming you are unavailable of course, 8tho ). But he'd never do it, I don't think.

I thought the next 007 is going to be Jodie Whittaker?
