BBC4 TV - An Art Lovers' Guide

    Yep......it's BBC4 again.

I thought the combination of Dr Janina Ramirez and Alastair Sooke worked surprisingly well in the episode I saw.

Informative, chatty in a good way; rather like Simon Reeve they come across as people who would be good inter-rail companions.

Barcelona - a lot of interesting things including and beyond Gaudi - medieval religious art, always more attractive than I expect, Miro and street art in his style etc.

Dr Janina Ramirez and Alastair Sooke discover Barcelona through its art and architecture.

I'm afraid I found the double-presenter thing rather annoying. The boy/girl format seems to be the fashion of the moment, and the Oh So Spontaneous banter just grates with me. Agreed there were some interesting glimpses of Barcelona's treasures, but the production always has to focus on the presenters...one's heading here, the other's heading there, etc.

    Just not my thing. Sorry.

      I think it depends.

For example, I'm not sure that Worsley and Goodman re the history of dance is a TV marriage made in heaven.

      At best, it's ok-ish.

Both are excellent presenters of documentaries on their own subject specialisms. This was toe-curling; they seemed to bring the worst features out of each other.

I'm surprised Sky Arts isn't suing the BBC for plagiarism, given how much this show owes its boy-girl go to gallery concept to its own The Art Show. Or maybe they're guilty of so much blatant pilfering of ideas from elsewhere that their lawyers have cautioned them against it!

Well, I've now watched the one on St Petersburg and I thought it was very, very good.
