        A local limerick:

There was a young fellow from Anerley
        Whost behaviour was gross and unmannerly;
        When asked to explain
        His answer was plain:
"Just put it all down to me famerlee"!

There was a young lady called Dinah
Who had sex everywhere with a miner
They made love on the stairs
Canoodled on the table and chairs
Then ended up breaking the bone china.

There was an old woman called Theresa
For whose speech her pals loved to tease her
As she Croaked and She Coughed
            They all Loved to Scoff
Now She's an Ex Party Leader

That one scans all right (unlike Sir Velo's lamentable efforts) but it doesn't rhyme!

                      One for jean:

There was an old woman from Kew
Was so poor she lived in a shoe
                      To make ends meet
                      She boiled her own feet
You could say she's in a bit of a stew.

I prefer Clerihews, although I'm not much good at inventing them :-

                          Das Lied von der Erde
                          Is absolute murder
                          I don't give a fig,
                          But why end in earwig?

Yes but the nearly rhyme is often the funniest bit, as in

The grip of a vice most unsavoury
held the Bishop of Bath in its slavery.
                            To ear-splitting howls
                            he would b****r young owls
which he kept in an underground aviary.

That may not be the most appropriate example but it's the one that came to mind.

                              Nooooo!

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                              Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

                                First class rhymes, Richard imo.

                                A composer known as Barrett
                                Listened alone in his garret
                                Radio Three was just fine
But not all of the time
'Twas the short wave that gave him his starret.
