Well, it is a discussion of irony.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Divas behind the Sofa ? Now there's a title just waiting for an album.

... don't we already have "Dives (and Lazarus) behind the sofa" ?

Mary Whitehouse would not have approved...

"Dives under the Duvet" could be unauthorised after lights out listening for the enlightened self-educated teenager.

Which reminds me of a certain conductor from the USA (Los Angeles) for whom I worked in the late '90s and early 2000's. He once told the orchestra one of his rare jokes, stopped a moment and then said "hey, that was irony and I'm not supposed to be able to understand that!"

Later on there was a discussion in the bandroom: was this comment itself an adroit use of irony? We were unanimous - naaah!

I once commended the American singer Annette Peacock on her use of irony in her juxtapositioning of lyrics and musical idiom, asking wasn't this unusual in American culture? to which she replied that we [here in Britain] had to understand that America was still a very young civilisation - one which had not yet reached the evolutionary stage of being ready to appreciate irony!
