Music Related programmes on TV /TV iPlayer / Other platforms

Thought perhaps a thread to mention programmes relating to music? Where it may not warrant starting a dedicated thread....

    For a first post:
I've had a look through the programmes on the TV iPlayer under the "Music" category - it has a Prom with Hickox conducting, a half hour Pears/Britten recital, a Boulez BBCSO concert and I also came upon this
    Julian Bream Masterclasses/Festival - 5 programmes from 1978:

I also came across 3 programmes - Wayfaring Stranger:
Phil Cunningham explores the musical connections between Scotland, Ulster and America.

On its first airing I recall finding one or more of these programmes fascinating, and regretting having missed episode(s) - in the days before the iPlayer. I'd been looking for a way to access these programmes.

When I was looking under the "Music Category" on TV iPlayer, purely to see what it had, I was somewhat taken aback to see I had one hour left to watch the 1st programme. (As I had to be elsewhere, I took "steps" to be able to watch the programme at a later timeā€¦..an unusual piece of luck in the timing).

Progs 2 and 3 still available, (ep 2 until 8pm Saturday next 13th May) on the iPlayer :

IF ONLY THE BBC WOULD RE-BROADCAST:

Masterworks: Six Pieces of Britain - here's a reference for the 1st programme (1999, BBC Two):

(It was that first programme in particular that sticks in the mind - recording the RVW Tallis Fantasia at night in Gloucester Cathedral).

Surely there would be demand to see these again (who on earth would want to see "The Good Old Days" again?).

Tonight in the last part of "Newsnight" (BBC2) a piece of at least 10 minutes with Jonas Kaufman and Pappano discussing the role of Otello, with rehearsal clips. Looks good - its being relayed in cinemas next week. I and Mrs CD will be going in early July. Fingers crossed he keeps in good voice.

Sound of Cinema: the Music That Made the Movies, part 1 of 3 shown on BBC4 last night (a repeat, somehow I missed this first time around), was better than expected, once past the first few minutes. Historically, the expositionary presentation to movie music was threadbare - no mention of Schoenberg's role in showing the expressive possibilities later to be taken up - but one learned much: I hadn't realised the importance of King Kong as a forerunner in so many ways, idiomatic and techical.
