    BBC1 - The Real Marigold Hotel - 15 February 2017

A reality television programme with celebrities. Series 2. Episode 1. I hadn't seen any of the previous series. This, though, was more stimulating than any similar series with younger people in that it raised all sorts of questions. I found it very watchable and kept with it to the end.

Is there a special bond between people of ages from the late 60s and the late 80s - some 20 years - or are they as a trend poles apart? Can there be more enjoyment when not being with younger and middle aged people? Is staying in India for a month in older age with strangers likely to be rejuvenating, worrying or intolerable? Does it depend on whether experience of school, work and other community groups has been more rewarding than individual pursuits?

What of recent personal arrangements? One participant had emigrated to Spain so that she didn't have to see anyone for most of each week. Another had a long, ongoing marriage that owed its success to his wife not knowing where he was for most of the time and caring even less. That might support the adage that everyone is different. But is the overall experience of travelling to a non-routine place when older likely to be unlike that when young. Tetchiness rather than histrionics, perhaps, and a deep contentment instead of wild, showy adventure? Have any forum members ever done something similar? And would you ever do it again?
