A Delicate Balance (Albee) at the Almeida

    I saw this last week.

Getting to the point: this is easily the best theatre production I've seen all year. Not only does the play knock spots off anything being written anywhere at the moment but the top drawer cast (Penelope Wilton, Tim Piggot-Smith, Imelda Staunton, Lucy Cohu, Diana Harcastle and Bill McIlhenney) really do play it for all its considerable worth.

It's on until 5th July and I think most performances are sold out; but don't let that put you off - just get there close enough to 6pm (as I did) and you stand a good chance of getting a return.

'A good chance' might not be good enough to risk, unless you happen to live a shortish bus ride away ...
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Thanks for comments which confirm our hunch that it would be a good one. We booked early. We live in Wiltshire and turning up on the off-chance is not a good bet.
