The most compelling British series this year so far, I think (and the first season, with Tom Courtenay et al. was also very good). Caught up last night with the penultimate episode from last week. It's so much more than just another 'cold case' crime caper. The multi-stranded unfolding narrative puzzle keeps one watching compulsively, and there are some superlatively directed and acted scenes dealing with difficult subject-matter without sensationalism (the sequence where one of the lead characters gave a tight-lipped account of her childhood to the police, interwoven with her estranged father simultaneously giving a very different account of the same thing to her husband, was pretty top-flight drama, I thought).
And the lead detective is played by Nicola Walker who for my money is one of the very best actors around at the moment (great and touching double act with her no. 2 played by Sanjeev Bhaskar, too).
Whereas some series outstay their welcome or pad out their episodes, I can't quite believe (and am sad) that this will be over tomorrow night.
