    'Unforgotten', ITV1

The most compelling British series this year so far, I think (and the first season, with Tom Courtenay et al. was also very good). Caught up last night with the penultimate episode from last week. It's so much more than just another 'cold case' crime caper. The multi-stranded unfolding narrative puzzle keeps one watching compulsively, and there are some superlatively directed and acted scenes dealing with difficult subject-matter without sensationalism (the sequence where one of the lead characters gave a tight-lipped account of her childhood to the police, interwoven with her estranged father simultaneously giving a very different account of the same thing to her husband, was pretty top-flight drama, I thought).

And the lead detective is played by Nicola Walker who for my money is one of the very best actors around at the moment (great and touching double act with her no. 2 played by Sanjeev Bhaskar, too).

Whereas some series outstay their welcome or pad out their episodes, I can't quite believe (and am sad) that this will be over tomorrow night.
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Agreed on all counts - this, and the first series, top flight TV drama. Nicola Walker is superb.

I anticipate quite a bit of wreckage strewn about at the end of tomorrow night.

So do I. I particularly love the way Nicola Walker's character manages almost to apologise her way to dragging the truth from her suspects - brilliant, piercing acting.

But I'd also put in a very enthusiastic word for the fabulous No Offence second series, too. Two consecutive evenings of very different first-class police drama (with a heavy dollop of black comedy peppering No Offence).

          Hello there Gentlemen,

Greetings from China on a Thursday night...

Wasn't aware of Unforgotten but will now look both series up. I read that a 3rd series has been commissioned.

I will also have a gander at No Offence.

          Best Wishes,

          Tevot

            Hello Tevot

You won't regret Unforgotten - I'm delighted to hear a 3rd series has been commissioned.

I am a tad squeamish and found the humour in No Offence a bit broad, but entirely a matter of taste

Must look you up on the map

Ah yes . I lived in Hong Kong for nearly a year in 1951-2, but as I was very young I don't remember a great deal about it. It's a long story, but we lived in the old Repulse Bay hotel for a while.
