Salisbury Museum, an artistic and historical gem in its own right, in the Cathedral Close has an important exhibition of major paintings and those wonderful (dare I say "almost impressionist"?) sketches by John Constable which runs until early September. They are almost all of paintings done on his his many visits to the city as a guest of Bishop John Fisher and his nephew of the same name. Pictures have come from the Tate, National Gallery, V & A and private collections.
If you are passing this way I thoroughly recommend a visit.
Booking beforehand on their website is recommended as entrances are timed (though you can stay as long as you wish)
