    Modus

Another sharp new Scandi Noir thriller, shot in winter in the usual muted colours. I caught episodes one and two (of eight at only 45 minutes each) yesterday on iPlayer, having only discovered it as a result of a BBC4 trailer. Mysterious murders amongst a wide cast of characters, whose connections remain to be revealed. Recommended for enthusiasts of Swedish crimi gloom.

Krister Henriksson is in it, though it's not clear yet what role his character plays. He played Wallander in the Swedish tv series, and I liked him better than Rolf Lassgård, who played him in the earlier film versions.

Apart from MOTD, Uni C and Call My Bluff, I rarely switch the TV on. But for some strange reason I watched the second episode of this last night and enjoyed it. I shan’t be coming back for more, though.

Don't be shy. Tell us what the strange reason was.

Nothing more than when I switched the TV on to set the timer for MOTD, it was on and out of curiosity I watched a minute of it and ended up watching the whole episode.

              Not strange, on reflection.

I'd no idea that there even was a programme called Music Of Tonal Disorientation; must go check that one out. My ignorance even amazes me sometimes!

Well, have to say, Modus lost its way this series.
Main prob was NOT the Swedish team at all, but the simply appalling 15th rate American actors they had recruited, and then given big roles to.
Deeply disappointed, and rattling predictable as it went on. Bit of a yawn, sorry to report.

I have 3 episodes left to watch, good solid stuff so far I thought. Maybe it goes off the rails towards the end

Greg Wise effortlessly doing 'creepy total bastard' has been fun to watch...
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                        Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
