I was re-watching "Casablanca" recently, and from watching closely, it is disappointingly clear that "Sam" is not playing the actual notes Ingrid Bergman has asked him "as times go by" to in that famous plead to "Play it again, Sam".

It's quite a shock isn't it? I always feel squinting helps as it blocks out most of the detail! I have to admit I enjoy watching Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes- his violin 'playing' leaves quite a bit to be desired! Luckily his acting, in my opinion is exceptional, so makes up for the loss!

He never says this! It's "Play it, Sam."

[In the Oxford Dictionary of Misquotations it's the Casablancan version of "Lead on MacDuff!"]
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!
