RSC Wars Of The Roses, released on DVD, 15th June, 2015

Been waiting a long time for this:

Forget The Hollow Crown: this is the real deal! :)

Ian Holm and David Warner are, imo, the finest Shakespearean actors of the post-war period, so this is a mandatory purchase for me.

Yes, sorry about that: onsetting Alzheimers', I reckon.

      Only fourteen days to wait.

But hang on - is this the same Conchis who wrote the opening post here?!:

        Shurely some mistake?

Not at all: the rheumy-eeyd and slack-jawed RSC of 2016 is a very different beast to the lean, keen fighting machine of 1965, when - in tandem with Olivier's NT - it could well lay claim to being the best theatre company in the western world.

I'm currently watching An Age Of Kings, the Beeb's 1960 traversal of Shakespeare's Richard ll - Richard lll cycle.

Some great performances but VERY old-fashioned (though still preferable to the 2016 product). It's astonishing to think that only four years separate this from the subject of this thread - as an interpretation, WOTR is light years ahead of AOK - swift-footed and crackling with energy. OK, so it's a stage production rather than something conceived for television, but I know which I find more involving.

Hst, it was great to see Sean Connery in his (only?) Shakespearean role (Hotspur) and to realise that Owain Glyndywr is the bard's greatest comic character. :)
