I'm afraid Meades has become totally self parodic; the valid points he makes from time to time are hidden under a welter of needless obscurantism.

Clearly he's on excellent terms with the BBC 4 head of programme commissioning....

In a senior moment of considerable duration, I fell asleep, thus missing this programme! I hope it's available on the eye player.

... yes, sadly I have to agree. I mean, I enjoyed it - I know some of the buildings to which he referred, and it was good to see some of those I hadn't had a chance to visit - but... he has become a caricature of himself, and the indulgence is wearing thin. A stronger editor might have pruned it to 60 minutes, advantageously.

I was of course happy to encounter his attack on the silliness of Marinetti, the Futurists, "Manifestos" , conceptual art - but there is a place for an explication of Italian fascism, and of its effect on Italian art and architecture - and, sadly, this was not it...

I have this recorded. Probably would not have lasted the 90 minute course either!
