Yes - I saw it; I agree - lots of promise in the first episode.

Good set up, central two among the best actors around, as said very intriguing and actually post Lawrence biz, not without resonance.

Is anyone else finding it as unconvincing as I am tnat a lawyer with such an anti-establishment background would ever have been considered for a post such as DPP?

Not to mention her emotional involvement with her clients...

The Director Of Public Prosecutions is an Equal Opportunities Employer, for Christ's sake. The office says so, so who are we to question it?

Irrelevant. I'm not questioning them appointing a woman or even a Black woman - no-one with her background would get near being considered for that job.

And, jean, is this based on any experience you have on such an appointment?

Doen't really need to be, does it?

It's also very unlikely that a barrister who'd never done prosecution work would be appointed to this role.

We are still watching. I agree with the flaws which have been pointed out, but virtually all such TV crime series have major flaws. Despite that people still seem to like crime stories e.g. http://www.cromartyartstrust.org.uk/...-thrillers.asp and TV versions.

                            The Killing
                            The Bridge
                            Trapped
                            Follow the Money
                            Inspector Montalbano (Young and old)
                            Lewis
                            Miss Marple
                            Poirot
                            Morse
                            Rebus
                            Vera
                            The Professionals
                            Midsomer Murders
                            Wallander
                            Sherlock (Holmes)
                            New Tricks
                            Line of Duty
                            Scott and Bailey

                            etc.

Yes - Maya's best-known real life equivalent (at least as far as the work with death row inmates is concerned) is presumably Mr Clive Stafford Smith, an equally unlikely candidate (I should imagine) for the post of DPP. The death-row scene was harrowing, reflecting recent real-life cases where states with the death penalty have been forced to experiment with different drugs. The recently publicised real-life cases of undercover policemen who have formed liaisons whilst undercover have involved policemen who have also had real-life families/relationships, and who abandoned their undercover relationships. "Nick" has gone completely the other way.

Haven't seen episode 3 yet...powerful drama even if some suspension of disbelief regarding the basic setup is required.

Two fine leads - Adrian Lester the guest on Essential Classics this week. Philip Davis ("Jimmy" in Episode 1) does a good line in villains, shady solicitors and the like....
