The Anglicans invented the modern shrine at Walsingham, didn't they? Clever of the Catholics to have discovered somewhere to call their own! It's called the Slipper Chapel or something, isn't it?

I didn't realise there was an Anglican diocese of Leeds. Does that mean Leeds Parish Church is now a Cathedral?

      And Portsmouth ?

Portsmouth C of E was created out of Winchester in the twentieth century, I think.

The C of E diocese of Ripon was officially the diocese of Ripon and Leeds. It has now been amalgamated with Wakefield and Bradford as the diocese of West Yorkshire and the Dales with three cathedrals, none of them at Leeds and none of them concrete.

Our Lady herself "invented" Walsingham perhaps. RCs and Anglicans have refounded it on different sites, neither on the original site as it is in the grounds of a small country house.

the diocese of West Yorkshire and the Dales
...not so romantic as Bishop of Argyll and The Isles. It conjures the image of a be-mitred figure, perhaps keeping balance with the aid of his crook, as he bobs between parishes.

              Or perhaps this:

Reges Tharsis et insulae munera offerent,
reges Arabum et Saba dona adducent.
Et adorabunt eum omnes reges terrae,
              omnes gentes servient ei.

... or the good old days of the 'Bishop of Fulham and Gibraltar' - in whose diocese lived the Pope. I hope the Bishop of F & G was able to provide appropriate pastoral care....

                  Getting back to the OP…

It’s not that big, but definitely French, concrete and 1970s is the church of St Jeanne d’Arc in Rouen on the site of the brave peasant girl’s nasty end.

As I remember, it is elliptical in shape and the interior is sunk below ground level. The windows are magnificent C15 from Rouen church destroyed in WW2.

                  Interior picture:

                  Exterior:

And Wikipedia, so it must be true

                    Thanks for the Sheppard, Jean!

Back to concrete matters, I'd forgotten the truly vast Basilica of St Therese at Lisieux. One could call it an architectural folly, but was built in the first part of the 20th century as a shrine to a local girl (St Therese) not the St Therese.

It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

                                Just possible then.

But oh dear, silly me. I won't correct the OP. It may cause a chuckle.
