I like David Thewlis very much and thought he put in a powerful performance as the Inspector in what I found an extremely entertaining version of 'An Inspector Calls' on Beeb 1 last Sunday.
An Inspector Calls, The Go-Between, Cider with Rosie and other BBC "autumn classics"

I agree; I thought it was excellent.
I spent ten years marking GSCE English Literature papers, and must have read over five hundred essays by 16 year-olds on this play. I think it says something about the quality of the play that it still remains a fresh and powerful experience.Numquam Satis!

Extra dialogue added too - the opening "Do you believe in God?" isn't in the original.Numquam Satis!

Nothing can possibly better the 1971 original with Christie and Bates, one of the best things Pinter ever did in capturing the past as a different country, imo, so why on earth all the wasted money and effort of a remake?

How can any other version compare with Pinter, Losey, Alan Bates, Julie Christie and Margaret Leighton? The new version looked awful.
