    NB this announcement by The Philharmonia:



    At 7pm on Monday 8 June we launch our new film, Vladimir Ashkenazy on the Path of Jean Sibelius, live on YouTube.

    Marking the Sibelius 150th Anniversary, the Maestro and our Digital team travelled to Finland to follow in the footsteps of the world-renowned composer.

      Welcome new material - must see! Wait for a download meltdown though.

      People may know of this earlier film [1984] about Sibelius with Ashkenazy available on DVD:



      and it's a very good overview of the man and his music with some dramatic shots of Finnish landscapes [as you'd expect]. Boris Belkin does need a haircut though.

              I don't know, but I reckon that, as it's a Philharmonia "in-house" film, they thought it would be easier, cheaper and reaching a world-wide audience quicker if they presented it via youTube rather than endless "negotiations" with several television companies across the interested world. I suspect more and more such material will reach the public in the near future.
