    Welcome to The Glasshouse...

Having lived in NE England for many years and witnessed the rise and rise of "The Sage" in Gateshead, I was intrigued to know what the new name was to be...

...well, that wait is over: Welcome to The Glasshouse International Centre for Music

Presumably the aged Stones would not be thrown out.

Or will there be a sense of release [or entrapment]*

OG it will be the Sage for at least as long as John Lewis will be Bainbridges

Having read a bit more about the name change I can't help feeling that a) it will continue to be known by its original name for a good while yet and b) having a new venue next door with the old name(the reason for the change) will cause some confusion?
Not arts related but 8thO's thoughts on alternative names for some other venues reminded me of the problem Edinburgh has landed itself with. The chocolate walnut whip may have originated in Edinburgh but that isn't the name that's most often attached to the blot on the cityscape apparently...
With its spires, castle and monuments, the Scottish capital’s glorious panorama is world famous. Now a looming new addition has appeared – and is causing outrage

It also seems very strange to change a name so timely associated with ground cover and environmental protection!

Presumably it is at the insistence of the Sage software people who are funding the new project next door...

...see Sage Gateshead music hall to be renamed the Glasshouse | North of England | The Guardian (this article also suggest some alternative names)

and Sage strikes naming rights deal for new Newcastle Arena in the UK (exhibitionworld.co.uk)

....if the facing of that hotel really is bronze not only is that an expensive material, but you can bet that some of it is made from melted down sculptures which have been lifted by scallies from all over the country....

....THE Jobby" .....or as we say in Bristol "Proper Job"....

Such as the Barbara Hepworth stolen from Dulwich Park some 12 years ago. Lends the new name an appositely ironic would-be association with the word clinker!

The current issue of Songlines carries an advertisement naming the venue as Sage Gateshead. I therefore have to assume that an imminent name change was unknown to whomever was responsible for placing the ad.
To me, the new name is unfortunate - having family connections with Colchester, I associate the name with the military prison in that city.
