Sage is a fab name....what of other buildings that could be re-named....ROH - the Tunnocks Teacake....South Bank - the Concrete Sandwich....

Having read a bit more about the name change I can't help feeling that a) it will continue to be known by its original name for a good while yet and b) having a new venue next door with the old name(the reason for the change) will cause some confusion?
Not arts related but 8thO's thoughts on alternative names for some other venues reminded me of the problem Edinburgh has landed itself with. The chocolate walnut whip may have originated in Edinburgh but that isn't the name that's most often attached to the blot on the cityscape apparently...

Presumably it is at the insistence of the Sage software people who are funding the new project next door...

Such as the Barbara Hepworth stolen from Dulwich Park some 12 years ago. Lends the new name an appositely ironic would-be association with the word clinker!

The current issue of Songlines carries an advertisement naming the venue as Sage Gateshead. I therefore have to assume that an imminent name change was unknown to whomever was responsible for placing the ad.
To me, the new name is unfortunate - having family connections with Colchester, I associate the name with the military prison in that city.
