I took another look, I'm not so sure. The walkers I saw seemed to be walking at a natural pace.

Ah... the eternal question.... How fast is Andante????

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I've spent some time drifting along the Kennet and Avon Canal in front of my television this afternoon. Put me into a boat and I would love it, but this is deadly dull.

        Why?

Because the image is always looking forward. In real life, you could glance to your left or right, and even behind. Furthermore, you might choose to stop anywhere along the canal. You might even talk to someone. But above all, you would feel the air on your face.

Not good television, but very cheap to produce.

When I taught in Derbyshire, the PTA bought the shell of a new narrowboat, which the parents completed over a number of years. Once complete, someone decided a video would be a good idea, so one of the teachers (the drama specialist, I think) made a video rather like the BBC programme, but with lots more camera shake. It was dull viewing. As I was involved in the local film-making club, I offered to make a CinemaScope sound film (on real filmstock) and it won an award locally. Unlike the BBC4 film, no "take" was longer than 10 seconds, and most were around 5 seconds in length. Yet it was quite relaxed in tempo.

I seem to be in a minority of one, having enjoyed the canal trip and the other programmes although admittedly switching to and fro to other programmes occasionally. There again I enjoy Wagner.

Do you like him coming to all senses, and from the back, the side or the front?

This all seems a bit 'lightweight' to me
