    Documentary on Lindsay Anderson R4X

Apologies if this has cropped up earlier as this programme may be a repeat, but I was interested in this documentary presented by John Harris on Lindsay Anderson, and especially the three films If, O Lucky Man and Britannia Hospital. There is some good archive material, and contributions from David Sherwin (screenwriter for the films), David Storey, Malcolm McDowell and Helen Mirren. Available on iplayer until late April:

John Harris investigates the life and work of director Lindsay Anderson.

Same title, same presenter, aeolium, so I think this must be the original programme that went out on September 23rd 2009, and which from having it on tape I can recommend.

A bit of a hero of mine, Lindsay Anderson: "O Lucky Man" is my favourite fillum.

The moment, in the film, when it seems nothing worse can befall our lead character Travis, when the Alan Price band strikes up a re-worded version of "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" which is then flashed up on the screen in a succession of different languages, is one of that film's many coups de grace.

I really ought to forgive AP for what he said many years ago to a group of SWPers trying to sell him Socialist Worker outside a gig: "Ah wouldn't gee yer tha pick'ns of ma nooze", and get down to see him: he has a regular once a month at the Bull's Head in Barnes.
