    aviatrix

This programme on BBC4 last night night, while not perfect was nonetheless quite riveting for me. Mary Heath, who seemed to have been a socialite adventurer in the 1920s was the first person to fly solo from Cape Town to the UK. Tracey Curtis-Taylor was attempting to recreate the route in a beautiful old biplane. Some of the shots were fascinating, beautiful and one in particular quite horrifying. I thought it could have done with 15 minutes more, and at times the accompanying soundtrack was a bit overbearing. However the route was fascinating and Tracey was obviously pretty determined. Glad I got to see it.

I thoroughly enjoyed it too, and was fascinated to learn about Mary Heath as well as to follow the route taken in that wonderful old plane. A delightful and absorbing programme.
