It does help to be German.

I wonder if Sir Simon has ever seen it?

I gather that many millions of Germans (and non-Germans living in Germany) watch it every New Year's Eve.

That and a Donald Duck cartoon (I think - not sure which one) are allegedly popular in Sweden around New Year. I don't think it's compulsory to be German.

The Swedes watch an hour of Donald Duck at 3.00 p.m. every Christmas Eve. Strange that it hasn't been mentioned (thus far) in The Cold Swedish Winter.

..."Dinner for One" is also obligatory viewing for many Danes & Swedes, though its two British stars, Freddie Frinton & May Warden, familiar to millions in N. Europe, are virtually unknown in the UK.

(Oh. & I've never seen any of the Star Wars franchise, nor the Wizard of Oz....)

To those of a certain age, Freddie Frinton is very well remembered. May Warden is, I think, less so.

Easily obtainable from a local quack dealer, maybe...

It is a pretty good epic really, in the vein of his equally obsessive Apocalypto and The Passion of Christ......
One senses a certain internalised guilt and self-flagellation going on here.....

But those last scenes are very definitely in the "look away now" category.....!

I've never seen The Godfather. I just haven't got around to it.

Oh God, don't! That was a terrible, devastating scene, first time never saw it coming, I nearly stopped watching at that point! And no animal lover should look into how they er, "produced" that scene, not ever.....

Still, Godfather 1 & 2 are great cinema...

Strange thing with Film and TV, how one changes through time.... I find any truly visceral violence almost intolerable now....

Seen way too many films, hardly have a classic left unwatched, but it is some time since I found anything really new and really outstanding....jaded and/or more demanding with the years....
