    'Nurse' on BBC2

Did anyone see this? Quite brilliant, IMO. Very droll, but also a poignant insight into mental health. I gather it was formerly a radio programme (which I missed out on). Often transfers to the screen are a bit of a let-down, but that can hardly be the case here.

The new comedy from The Fast Show star tackles mental illness sensitively and authentically - but with plenty of laughs, says Ben Dowell

I was getting fed up with the scope of PW's characterisations (repetative) after years of being a fan....but when combined with the extraordinarily good prostetics, I thought he gave sensitive and thoughtful portrayals , as well as the rest of the cast....

Thanks for the reminder about this.

His previous similar series, Help, about a psychiatrists' patients, was wonderful: all available on youtube (save one, the soundtrack of which has been removed).

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

....One (that is I) wonders though, if any of these cameo characters can extend themselves beyond just a few minutes of exposure....seems unlikely to me....I wonder what is the range of this programme....is it a humourous quick hit of one-liners that go nowhere, or are we supposed to engage more emotionally with it....Will it create stories and back stories....

....the necessary latex work involved leads one to believe that after all the trouble of putting on the makeup, all the filming of that character would happen in one shoot....episodic....

Yes indeed. It hadn't occurred to me (I'm naive I suppose) that we're just going to see the same scenarios over and over, rather as in the much less subtle Little Britain....which nevertheless my g-kids find endlessly funny. Anyway, time (one more week maybe?) will tell.

Yes - the opportunity for character development is perhaps stronger in some characters (the agoraphobic ex-prisoner and the obese son) than in others (I suspect a harrowing bit of family history may be in store in connection with the infuriating Jewish neighbour). More an everyday drama with comic moments than a "hilarious" comedy - well worth watching.
