That's a shame, there's quite a lot that's good viewing (particularly on BBC), you just have to be selective. Just recently, during Holocaust commemoration, we had Shoah (Claude Lanzmann), Night Will Fall, etc., all of which unmissable (and, to be honest, should be compulsory viewing). Just lately we're watching Wolf Hall, and loadsa stuff about history, Indian Summers looks promising I think.

I can perhaps understand richardfinegold giving up - but he lives in the US where Big Bang Theory is considered the best they produce.

Simon and Garfunkel nailed it half a century ago: "The people bowed and prayed to the neon God they made"
Truthfully, I have watched more TV in the past year than in the previous 20, thanks to Breaking Bad, (the Spanish show) The Time In Between, and now Saul; but you are right, what passes for high falutin culture on the boob tube here usually are imports from the Beeb...

These incompetent amateur camera operators should be pushed quietly into other jobs. Inflicting beginner home-movie quality broadcasting on innocent members of the public should be banned by the Geneva Convention.

Camera operators are told exactly what to do & when by the director. He is the real menace.

Of course the TV still has a most useful purpose.

A bottle of red, no interruptions & a DVD of ' Les Enfants du Paradis ,' Tous les Matins du Monde , or any Cocteau film.

It's not only TV. You should be thankful you don't have the Archers (radio programme) in the US - not at least without a lot of effort. Mrs D. has now taken to downloading these wretched 12 minute programmes, and playing them in bed before we go to sleep. This is an alternative to having the same wretched programme on around tea/dinner time earlier in the evening. It may be one of the world's longest running soaps, but I'm with Tony Hancock on his view of his similar programme - the Bowmans - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3ks4qtAx-A

The world will be a better place without it!
