Top of the Pops: the story of 1980

Not terribly classical-related but there is quite a bit of talk about the BBC orchestras and the 9 week dispute which took TOTP off the air for a fair bit that year.

Plus it's a very well made docu, as one would expect, even if you don't know a lot about the 'pop' music of that time.

It's also on youtube if you search.

Good to see both Peter Gabriel (albeit in promo-film) and former mates Genesis on the same show .. and Siouxsie & the Banshees also looking good.

I'm doing a gig with MR Fry next week and might ask him how they managed to get the Prophet 5 synth to work without plugging in anything into the output socket

(at least they always pretended the guitarists were playing the sound you hear in the broadcast)

          Better than The Shadows anyway.

Given the subsequent behaviour of many of the presenters of TOTP I'm looking forward to more skilful editing to remove certain (getting on for a fair 50%?) presenters in a Soviet stylee

They've already dropped at least one D*T presented episode, as far as I know. Don't think PS has featured in 1980 yet. Probably too busy with his own, er, show.
