    online Radio Times listings 1929 - 2009

so here is Radio 3, Saturday 30 September 1967 (for example)

    quite easy to navigate

last page for Third Programme 11-12-1964, first page for Radio 3 30-9-1967 - was there a gap ?

You beat me to it! I read about this earlier today and have been browsing through it. It's a fascinating experience, and has brought back many memories.

It certainly gives an insight into what R3 used to cover, as opposed to relying on vague and imperfect memory.

I picked a week pretty much at random, from 6 April to Sunday 12 April 1970. It's pretty impressive to see the range of what was offered there.

        Oh the memories.
I wonder what those who run the show nowadays think seeing this, are they embarrassed ?

          Interesting project.

I think the entry re the jazz programme at 12:00 is wrong. Surely there is no such person as "STEVE rta"!

Looks like an uncorrected scanning error.

Little difficulty in guessing that that was Steve Race, surely.

That's what I thought. If you look further down the page it is possible to discover how to suggest edits and corrections. I've not tried this yet.

my cursory look at entries yesterday suggests there are hundreds if not thousands of 'errors' - I considered an edit yesterday, but once you've started you might never stop ......

I can't decide if something like this is an error or exactly as it appears in RT - there are many other examples like it

what was played ? - we may never know

the "contributors" part of an entry is odd - it seems to be redundant, repeating information already given and surely doesn't appear in the original RT entry. Or does it have to be there for the computer to be able to search for a name ?

A fascinating project but, admittedly from a cursory glance, there often seems to be only the names of the musical performers but not the pieces played. Plays however seem to carry a great deal of detail.

This is a fantastic resource which should settle many an argument. A pity that details of what was actually played in many live concerts is missing but perhaps details will emerge in due course.

I see that Malcolm Sargent and the BBC SO broadcast a concert on the evening of the day I was born - but no details alas. Meanwhile, at the time I was born Jack Parnell and his Music Makers with Marion Davis and Dennis Hale were filling the airwaves on the Light Programme.

I think we'll all have a happy few hours on this!

I discovered that on my day of birth was broadcast the first performance of Grace Williams’ Sinfonia Concertante for Piano and Orchestra.

A coincidence of two important debuts!

On my first day, they were playing some Dallopiccola, in front of an " Invited audience".

Could this thread perhaps be joined to this, started a couple of days ago?

On the day of my birth, the Third Programme broadcast a talk:

                              THE TWO CENSORS
                              by W. M. S. Russell
Freud was the first to compare the censor in society with the censor in the individual brain. Dr. W. M. S. Russell pursues both the analogy and the real connection between the two, and considers, in particular, their effect on creative intelligence.
                              Contributors

                              Unknown: W. M. S. Russell

It now seems fitting that I've been banned from posting in the Classical Music forum here.
