Quantifying - or trying to - something suggests that it can be measured objectively. I don't think it can be - response to art, especially abstract art, is subjective. And reasons for thinking that an artist is good can be very different. The majority of people who like Cezanne's paintings probably do so a) because they are told they are good; & b) because they are nice pictures. A minority of people who like them do so becuase they understand how the paintings work & how they challenged the art 'establishment'.

I think it's possible to measure something 'objectively'. I'm not sure exactly what it is or whether it matters.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I feel perked up as I got all the Vermeer vs Meegeren correct. (It can't have been that difficult.)
