Far more hits than misses, and some genius. Some of the non-specific 'BBC types' are the funniest ('Jonnie Oxford-Cambridge') but also
Bronowski, Thatcher, Yentob, Scandi-Noir, Ask the Family, Masterchef... esp Schama... all get the treatment.
I'm not sure the Monty Python parodies quite succeeded at whatever they were trying to say, but it was daring to have attempted them.

However, in view of the above, it could well have been because we didn't recognise any of the sketches as spoofs of anything we'd seen, and just thought they were doing vaguely funny characters. Perhaps, as with a lot of humour, you needed to be 'tuned in' via previous exposure.

The BBC2 prog is much better overall, I think.

Now you're confusing me!
What we saw was called The Fast Show Special, on BBC2 last Monday night (26th) at 9pm, which is what I thought gurnemanz referred to in #4. The rest of the thread wasn't really concerning me. What have I done wrong?

However, the Enfield & Whitehouse spoof "history" was brilliant () - right from the uncanny Schama impersonation. And the merciless way Enfield ribbed his own work (the lack of Baftas) as well as everyone else's was perfect.
(There: I hope that puts gurne's and DonP's comments in context. )Last edited by ferneyhoughgeliebte; 28-05-14, 13:02.Numquam Satis!

Very many thanks for this Caliban. I thought it was hilarious. Stand outs for me (dare I say!?) include the Germans' "trouser tents" ... and Stalin confessing to an urge to purge...
It was lovely seeing a thoughtful, funny, intelligent and yet critical piece about BBC 2's trajectory over the years.
As with last year's An Adventure in Space and Time it made me feel nostalgic, appreciative of well produced programmes and grateful that Auntie (warts and all) is still there...and can still raise her game when she wants to !!
Enfield's Schama by the way was spot on
Best Wishes,
Tevot
