I imagine it might have been the charismatic Gautier Capuçon?



He's very good, saw him several times doing Fauré chamber music (inc with his violinist brother Renaud) at the Wigmore last year.

And Dudamel - well, see my thread about the "Tribune des Critiques" programme: his Mahler 5 on a blind hearing beat Karajan, Bernstein et al - all comers in fact, apart from Kubelik.

You can alwas skip through them and the result, Music without fatuous and unneccesary comment more than makes up for the slight inconvenience.

But this is also true of the concert introductions on R3 - and there you don't have to hover ready to jump on the Fast Forward button between Movements, just before the piece begins. The day may yet come when R3 broadcasts concerts with requests for Tweets in between Movements, but, for the time being, once the Symphony/Concerto/Opera has statred, the Music remains uninterrupted until the end of the work.

Not always a good thing of course.

Speaking of the pause between movements... surely commercials, a cuppa, or jusst a good old fashioned stretch....ANYTHING is better than applause.....

Not actually on at the moment, or recently, but I am currently watching A TV Dante (all 14 Cantos made), recorded from broadcast and burned to DVD-R.

[Damn it! The second disc, which should have Cantos IX to XIV directed by Raul Riuz on it, turns out to now be unreadable. It would be the Ruiz Cantos, which have never made it to commercial DVD. ]

Just watched the final episode of Vietnam - the final section about the memorial, and the reactions of some of the participants to it, followed by on-screen titles about what participants in the series have done since.... Blue Planet 2 (BBC1) earlier. Series 2 of The Crown (on Netflix) starts on December 8.

Phew! After several attempts at thorough cleaning of the DVD-R with baby wipes (which also make good screen cleaners) the disc revealed itself to have not been finalised back in 2005, when I burned it. Come to that, I had failed to give titles to its 2 'tracks' (TV Dante IX to XIV, and a ballet danced to Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique). Now titled and finalised in a more recent Blu-ray/DVD recorder, it is playing well, so far at least. I had better copy it as my next move. The Raul Ruiz directed Cantos are totally different in approach to those by Tom Phillips and Peter Greenaway, (I to VIII).

[Now backed up the hard disc, chapter cues and title added, and burned to a new DVD-R. Better backup Cantos I to VIII (Phillips/Greenaway) now.

All 14 of the Cantos produced can be viewed on YouTube, though in rather low picture and sound quality with Spanish subtitles on the case of I to VIII.]

'Taskmaster' on Dave Channel is just coming to the end of its 5th series. Greg Davies and Alex Horne are the Taskmaster and sidekick and the comedians being given the tasks have changed with every season and the quality of each season has largely depended on that, though generally they have been very funny. However this season with contestants Aisling Bee, Bob Mortimer, Mark Watson, Nish Kumar and Sally Phillips has been the best and craziest yet - best comedy on TV by a country mile, in my opinion. (even Mrs C loves it )
