& having had one child she clearly didn't care about with the excuse, later, that she wasn't much more than a child herself, she had another, whom she also appeared not to care much about. Thank goodness she found out about contraception eventually (I assume)

When I took the NME every single week during 1976-1979 she was a young woman. I'm not sure what your point is.

Are we all talking about the same Julie Burchill? !!!!!!!?

Why shouldn't she have children and why on earth do you believe she is a paedophile for chrissakes?

She was a very entertaining journalist who made a significant contribution during the most dynamic and important epoch of British pop/rock history.

She was provocative, edgy and a bloody good writer who had her finger on the pulse.

Britain wouldn't have been the same without people like Lydon, Burchill, Westwood, McLaren et al, et al. IMHO, of course.

Quite - not only has he got his love & fear muddled, he addressed the question in reply to a post of mine which said nothing about paedophiles or paedoPHOBES.

              indeed.

Such niceties aren't of any interest to Beef Oven. There's no stopping him once he's on his horse. I think he fancies himself as the Vladimir Putin of the forum.

What would you expect from a Birchill apologist?

This isn't about Julie Burchill this is about punk.

I'm not an apologist - she was part of the greatest musical revolution this country has ever seen.

Of course it's about Birchill. Punk in no way dependent upon her scribblings. She rode the punk wave. She did not create it.

The fact that she was a huge fan of the sex pistols says it all.

Punk would have had no momentum without people like Burchill. It would have been stamped out, just like the establishment wanted. It's so easy to forget the risks these people took by pinning their colours to the mast.

Here's a nice bit of irony for you. O.k., the Mothers' Day heading of the web-page may be transient, and indeed gone tomorrow, but JB's "I've always hated phoneys" will remain. Quite a quote from the phoney mother to cap 'em all.
