    That book looks interesting. Another good book on the influence of the European emigres, this time on British culture, is Daniel Snowman's The Hitler Emigres. There's quite a bit in there about the influence on the BBC and the Third Programme/R3 in particular.

      I thought he wrote well on music. Remembering two items in particular. Beethoven op. 132 & the Bach double violin concerto.
      I was very young at the time & easily influenced but the excerpts did at least, as a young teenager, send me off in the right direction - more money spent on red & purple label discs !
