Through Persian Eyes - R4 series

I'd just like to draw attention to a 3-part series on R4 on Persian/Iranian history presented by Prof Ali Ansari:

Prof Ali Ansari presents a world history as seen through Persian eyes

The first two parts are available on iplayer. There was an Iranian season some years back, including some programmes on R3 IIRC, but this is different in that it is presented from an Iranian perspective, the presenter and many of the interviewees being Iranian. The first programme was interesting, and good to hear a quotation in Persian from the Shahnama by Ferdowsi.

[Sorry there is so little to discuss on R3, with many Do3 productions being repeats]

thanks very much for the tip aeolium! it's fascinating to hear familiar place names but relating to a totally different perspective from the one we're more commonly used to. (perhaps encapsulated in alexander the great being perceived a 'tipsy womaniser' and a 'destroyer')!

odd too to think that the west grew to doubt the existence of an absolutely huge army, that hostra (sp)?was 'the equivalent of julius caesar' ..yet we've never heard of him.

all in all a very timely reminder of iranian roots being in zorastrian philosophy, their acceptance of others, and that some areas should be 'world heritage sites'.

autumn 502 sounded like a very busy time! thanks again - looking forward to parts 2&3.
