OK I confess that this is wildly OT but it's been plaguing me for months.
Does anyone recall a woman who came over to England in the early-mid 1950s - in my childhood memory she was often on the radio, sometimes on the telly, walking from Land's End to John O'Groats, that sort of thing - I think she was Russian which was rather exciting in the days of spy-mania. I seem to recall that the Rosenburgs' trial was in the news around the same time and probably much-discussed on Brains Trust - phew! Back on topic

I can remember studying the works of Heinrich von Kleist as an undergraduate years ago. We were required to read Kant (in the original German) because he had a "Kant crisis". This task was at the time somewhat beyond me and I was therefore in sympathy with Russell's observation that pre-Kantian philosophers had the big advantage that they did not have to read Kant.
