Do3 - The Plough and the Stars

The Plough and the Stars, December 4th, 8.30pm:

"Sean O'Casey's classic play set in the midst of the Easter Rising of 1916. The impact of events is viewed through the eyes of ordinary people inhabiting a Dublin tenement. O'Casey's masterpiece paints a vivid portrait of a city and a nation in turmoil."
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I thought this was a terrific production of a play I didn't know but which I ought to have got to know earlier. The acting was excellent (despite the odd slightly dodgy accent) and I especially liked Bessie, Fluther and Mrs Grogan (and the Young Covey). The language was memorable, both idiomatic and poetic, and gave the drama a momentum and vividness, with striking use of song and Biblical quotations. The play painted a picture of ordinary life co-existing with the extraordinary events taking place and being remorselessly drawn into them.

A wonderful work brought powerfully to life.

I must listen to it again.

I have it recorded and, having missed tonight's Do3, I'll probably manage TPatS next week. Thanks for the recommendation! (I think it counts as a recommendation )

I thought for a while that I'd imagined hearing this play, ff - glad to find it really happened

Not a recommendation, just my own reaction - no accounting for taste and all that. I didn't manage to listen again as I was rather busy last week, but I'm sure it will be repeated at some point.
