    Presenter on 3

There was a presenter on 3 who used to chair discussion programmes.usually about global and historical issues usually late evenings often at the Sage Gateshead and sometimes in London . He had a familiar voice and I know he was well travelled and knowledgeable on China . Anyone remember his name and what happened to him on 3?

I think it might be Rana Mitter. He’s a Professor of History at the University of Oxford, and Director of the China Centre there.
"I do not approve of anything that tampers with natural ignorance. Ignorance is like a delicate exotic fruit; touch it and the bloom is gone. The whole theory of modern education is radically unsound. Fortunately in England, at any rate, education produces no effect whatsoever. If it did, it would prove a serious danger to the upper classes, and probably lead to acts of violence in Grosvenor Square."

Rana Mitta is a fairly regular presenter on Free Thinking, which is suspended during the Proms season. In fact he was presenting the programme last night, the first in the new season, which was about Dante.

Art historian Martin Kemp and painter Emma Safe, parallels with Proust and a Dante website

He presented a superb series on R4 called Chinese Characters, about the people who have shaped China’s history and culture through the ages. It’s on Sounds.

Actually listening to his voice there's another presenter who used to do these programmes. It's not Rana Mitter

This thread could almost be a two Ronnies conversation.

            Nah it wasn’t him …
