Just announced on R4 that there will be a commemorative tribute to Jeremy. Linda's premature passing was a huge loss. Both were irreplaceable. This is very sad news

Very much an “ oh no “ moment to hear this .

RIP and if he and the late great Linda Smith are wrong about an afterlife - they could be reunited on a celestial panel with Alan Coren with Simon Hoggart in the chair.

I feel a sense of personal loss, perhaps from having seen him once live on stage, but also from his being a regular on The News Quiz and ISIHAC: and had noticed his absence from Radio Four in recent weeks. I loved his rants and the sense of a provocative intelligence and ethos under the humour. RIP doesn't do it for me - I want to say Thank you Jeremy for your humour and for your fierce integrity.

Jeremy Hardy was a voice of reason as far as I am concerned - funny and thought-provoking; and reading and listening to the contributions from his fellow entertainers, clearly loved dearly by many. I'll miss him on the radio.

Indeed - including the not-known-for-sentimentality Miles Jupp, who was audibly controlling his distress in his introductory comments to yesterday's News Quiz.

Very well said John. Kernelbogey also sums up Jeremy Hardy well imho - "fierce integrity" indeed. I still can't believe the news. A great spirit gone.
