Listeners to Robin Brooks's melodrama Byzantium (BBC 3, March 4) were puzzled by the multiplicity of varieties of British accents deployed by Allegra (Brooks's own company, its web site tells us), including Australian, if that counts as British: and most notably by the ostentatiously American voice that read the credits after the end (for example pronouncing the name Wadham name as wad + ham.) You might say this added colour, if unrelated to the vile jelly of the melodrama. I suspect author Brooks is influenced by too many Hollywood productions about comic book characters.
