    Poetry Broadcasts and Documentaries.

Perhaps I'm confused, probably more puzzled, as to why postings on Poetry are the cuckoos in the nest under General Arts; viz Gen arts and culture, Visual Arts, TV and Film; when Poetry is specifically listed under the General Arts column, Verbal Arts on R3, Drama, POETRY, Books!

    Indeed!
It took me a while to find the thread when I wanted to post the link to the Proms poem!
And I would have mentioned it before had it been written by my partner, rather than by someone he knows.

Thanks, Pulcie. Indeed, I seem to recall writing about this anomaly some time ago but...erm...the cuckoos in the nest are usually Hosts!

        BBC4 TV -

Rhymes, Rock and Revolution - The Story of Performance Poetry:

For many, this will be a bit of a nightmare.

I thought it was quite interesting - accompanied in places by nostalgia.

And there is a fair amount of Kate Tempest for GT!

??? So, you're confused/puzzled because "Poetry" is under the General Arts "nest" when it should be under the General Arts "column"???

I think what was meant is that the word Poetry appears in the description of the Radio 3 Arts (sub)forum, which also says 'and elsewhere' (i.e., not just on Radio 3), and that is certainly where I first went when looking for the Poetry thread to post my link on. I then had to search for it, and found it in General Arts.

Oh, I see - apologies. But I'm not sure why anyone would look under the Radio 3 Arts Forum for a topic that isn't about anything that has appeared on "Radio 3 or elsewhere"? When I started the Thread nearly four years ago, I chose the Forum that most closely matched the remit of offering Forumistas the opportunity, not to comment on Poetry programmes they'd heard/seen on radio or television, but to contribute poems that they'd encountered/remembered that they think would be appreciated by others. "The General Arts and Culture" seemed more appropriate than poetry "on Radio 3 and elsewhere" which seemed to me specifically to require reaction and responses to broadcast content.

Of course, I could have posted in both places, as I think that the Proms competition poems got read on R3!

                  - but if both you and Stanley had difficulties, perhaps that means that my "logic" was misleading and there are other Forumistas who would have liked to have contributed a poem they'd encountered, but couldn't find where to find the Thread?

If you find a poem coming on and you don't know where to post it, open a new thread. Someone will soon tell you where it should have gone.

Or go to "Advanced Search", type in "Poetry" (including the inverted commas) and select "Thread Titles", and the Thread comes top of the list in seconds.

Another very good programme from BBC4 TV:

"Sex, Chips and Poetry - 50 Years of the Mersey Sound" - http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode...e-mersey-sound

Indeed, Lat-Lit, it was a pleasure to see The Mersey Sound last night; instant memories
of Messrs McGough, Patten and Henri, Sunday evening poetry recitals when I did a season in 1969 with Century Theatre in the NW, 1969. A refreshing change, too, to see several documentaries on BBC 4 in the last few nights after months of TOTP's repeats in prime time schedules, night after night! I've just spent a couple of hours doing cut and paste transfers from Radio Times to the front covers of DVD transfers from HD; Betjeman and me, Rick Stein's
Story; Cornwall's Native Poet: Charles Causley; Vienna: Empire, Dynasty & Dream; Tunes for Tyrants, Pt I of 3 and a fascinating documentary, (BBC 2), Stop All the Clocks, on WH Auden.
The trouble here is that I'm easily diverted by sheer curiosity to my bookshelves and three hours later was still reading February House,(2005), Sherrill Tippins, which focusses on Auden's American years when he shared Carson McCullers Brooklyn brownstone house, early 1940s, with Jane & Paul Bowles, Britten & Pears, and Gypsy Rose Lee! Pages and pages of their lively discussions over dinner with Auden usually holding court, or intimidating Britten over the libretto for Paul Bunyan. A real page turner.
