    Do3 Sunday April 9th - R.Strauss

I don't know if this has already been mentioned somewhere, but last night's Do3, dealt with Richard Strauss's suspected collaboration with the Third Reich. It was most absorbing and clearly well-researched, Strauss's wife Paulina being portrayed rather convincingly by Sian Phillips I thought, as his protector/apologist.

David Calder and Sian Phillips star in Martyn Wade's play about Richard Strauss.

No, it hasn't been mentioned. Wasn't it a repeat? Not that that's particularly relevant …

I gave it a miss because I don't have any fondness for contemporary plays which are about real people. The subject matter seems to be chosen because the life was interesting, and that often makes the biographical aspect take precedence over the dramatic. But if you recommend it I may give it a listen. I still haven't caught up with Pericles …
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
