I heard it this afternoon, and greatly enjoyed it, had not realized it was the start of a new series.
(I'm afraid that if I am at home on Saturday afternoon I now usually ditch Saturday Classics and turn to R4 for their drama) -
Yes, fascinating listening. Simon Russell Beale has an admirable facility in energising the narrative, so much so, that the actors began to sound like mere cyphers! Several Pinteresque moments throughout and memory imagery of Richard Brooks's elegant but ponderous widescreen direction of "Lord Jim",
(1964) provided almost the same scene-setting in the Dutch East Indies.Comment
