Just one reservation, he is a member of the Tárrega Club - that should be the TarrEga Club.

His arts pedigree is at least as impressive as that of most of his R3 colleagues. He's a witty, charming and modest man (I've met him away from work, through mutual friends). You either like his style or you don't, an idea that wouldn't shock him in the least.

Well, let's see what Alan Davey makes of him (and others!). He could decree a change of style, or he could have a mass clear-out, like Nicholas Kenyon did. Roger Wright got rid of or sidelined several presenters I liked - Stephanie Hughes, Penny Gore, not to mention the unforgiveable crime of losing Catherine Bott.....

Perhaps Barbirollians will forward to the controller his thoughts on all the presenters, giving marks out of 10 for how much he likes them? :-) Who knows, perhaps AD will agree entirely and thank him for backing his decision to drop all the presenters Barbirollians 'cannot abide'?
That said, Sean is one of the few (the only?) presenter(s) who has stayed in place presenting the same programme after being appointed by Nicholas Kenyon. And In Tune is the probably the one surviving programme that has survived intact with minimal changes (just the hours). After a good 15 years in that slot (and studiously avoiding the question of age ) it will surely be that one way or another his time is limited at Radio 3.
My personal feeling is that it would be distasteful for ANYONE to be throwing hats in the air. (Always keep a-hold of nurse ...)It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

In so far as it sounds like a group of friends having a jolly time together I suppose you could say that it sounds like a private club, but not one I feel excluded from. I've seen Sean Rafferty in action when it was broadcast from Glasgow, & he had an extremely good rapport with guests and the public. He is, I think, very good at his job.

It was certainly a pleasant surprise when Ian Skelley replaced Ms Klein as presenter of last night's In Tune, (14 Jan). Low-key without the enforced jollity and cheesy gags from the usual team. Imogen Cooper at the pianoforte and articulate in conversation; a happy reminder of what used to be.

One of the guests, I seem to remember, was Ian Pace. We did not speak :-) ). There wasn't any public present except me.
It's still the same format - a mixture of guests, live music, recorded music, information about events, new recordings, etc.

Good programme, In Tune. I like both Suzy Klein and Sean Rafferty. I have seen the latter present the programme live, twice, from SageGateshead at the Freethinking Festival and would agree with all the favourable comments above. I did also enjoy Ian Skelly on Monday, though. SR was back in the presenter's chair tonight.
