Elitism will always be with us but the 'Posh Boys' are intolerable ....

...women are being frozen out by the new Toffia [Eton Oxbridge and Chipping Norton] ...

according to the woman who ran the Home Office [only her gender may be a recommendation, it is not as if the Home Office is a shining example of organisational virtues]

meritocratic elitism is the least worst option but it demands an especially open and mobile society to be so .... Posh Boys is not that .... bless the 1944 Act ...and bring it back in some new and fit version ....

But is elitism always a bad thing? We admire elitism in sport, but deplore it in other circumstances.

But if football, in general, the best players earn the most money and play for the best teams, so it is elitist but meritocratic.(I think).

Not so in far too many walks of life, and where it really matters.

i am not suggesting it is good or bad but can be either Eine Alpensinfonie ....

but it is inevitable i think ....

i was always struck by the Michels argument that even if many participate in decision making, over time this reduces to a few as the agendas become lengthy, complex and tiresome ... the pragmatics of participation suggest that many will leave it to others ...certainly my experience in public bodies e. g. school governorship ... [Michels was referenced in a book published so long ago by Prof Peter B Smith and it is in the house somewhere but i can find neither at home nor on the web ... Leadership Organisation Culture i think it was called, a good summary for the seventies of leadership studies]

Some otherwise successful wimmin will always cry 'discrimination' if they never reach the very top.

Didn't one female Labour Minister once accuse poor old Broon of 'sexism' among his many other alleged failings?

Mind you, that didn't stop the same lady for exploiting her gender and shapely figure by posing rather provocatively on the pages of some tatty magazine or other.

          Enough!

We're all different, amsey ... can you just imagine what life would be like if we were all amseys and scottycelts ... ?

Nah, variety is the spice of life, amsey ... though I do defer to french frank for deciding on the rules of engagement here ... that is no concern of mine ... she is the boss and, as you know, I ain't no anarchist!

To return to the original topic (& away from the love-in between Am & Scotty, which, quite frankly, leaves me feeling slightly nauseous) Cameron wants everyone to be elite.

                        Something wrong there, surely?
