Republican forumites (like myself) will be heartened to know support for the monarchy is crumbling fast in younger people. Indeed, if my offspring and his pals are anything to go by, the forthcoming weekend's events will be met by a collective shrugging of shoulders from the under 20s. I don't see things changing in my lifetime unfortunately but by I wouldn't bet on a George VII.

Meanwhile, as I won't be swearing an oath to Chaz, can the team suggest an alternative recipient? I'd like to suggest Bach but I'm not sure it's possible to pledge ones allegiance to someone no longer alive.

I always thought the Thames TV theme owed something to Walton but I may have misremembered. I’m reminded of it because of the onslaught of live tv coming this weekend…..

I hadn't thought of that - but even so - thousands? I hope someone's thought about the fact they won't get 70 years out of C111 R insignia...

Will the new stamps be C3PO ?
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

Probably depends on whether Royal Mail survives...

...perhaps it could do with a dose of homeopathy!

... I see that Camilla is a "Her Majesty". Poor old Prince Philip (or "Nambawan Bigfela Belong Missus Kwin" as we we called him in Pidgin when in Vanuatu) was only ever a "His Royal Highness". Curious gendered asymmetry...

My thought too. Wasn’t the Queen Mother HRH as well?

No, I'm afraid it's just tradition. A King is a ruler (i.e. there can be only one King), so The Duke of Edinburgh was prince consort. A Queen doesn't have to be a ruler (e.g. Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother ) . We don't have to take it seriously.

nope. She was an HM Queen (HMQEQM)

That's Ok then , I don't have to wave my gold stick (or black rod) at you

It is, after all, a long time since Alf Garnett stood up in his front room when they played the National Anthem on TV.
