Ah yes, "the other side" - the "my ignorance is worth as much as your knowledge" side...

I'm not sure what controversy you're referring to. I think most of us here would agree that the amount of money spent by the BBC on people like Gary Lineker is pretty obscene, especially when they're taking an axe to the BBC Singers and their orchestras, but on the other hand sacking him for making factually unimpeachable comments as a private person is another matter altogether. I imagine there weren't that many people calling for Lineker to be sacked when he made snide comments about Jeremy Corbyn a few short years ago.

        The latest thrilling development......

Tim Davie says disruption to programmes hit by presenter boycott is "a real blow" and apologises to audiences.

“When I use a word,’ Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, ‘it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less.’

’The question is,’ said Alice, ‘whether you can make words mean so many different things.’

’The question is,’ said Humpty Dumpty, ‘which is to be master — that’s all.”

"Yes", said Jayne, "but who's winning tonight?"

Looks like a job for Max Headroom - if you have a long memory.

I bet the head honchos at the BBC are wishing it was all over, rather than all over the newspapers and other media.

It would seem the BBC now has an opportunity to try a different approach to the broadcast of MotD.
“We understand their position and we have decided that the programme will focus on match action without studio presentation or punditry.”

I just wonder why, if the 6th film wasn't part of the series as the BBC statement says, it got linked in the first place. There are two different narratives though, and the alternative one is that it was realised/feared that there might be adverse reactions and so it was hived off.
Lack of consistency doesn't help matters in such situations.
The BBC press office is being entirely disingenuous . They linked it on the Countryfile website - same makers , same presenter - pulled due to fears right wing Tories would go bananas

I have avoided commenting in political threads on this forum as I thought that it was to discuss mattters relevant to Radio3 content and related topics. However, for the record, I have been a member of the Conservative Party on-and-off since my early 20s (I am now in my early 70s) and hsave contested local elections as a Conservative in 3 cities over that period, most recently in Manchester in 2018. Of course I respect the democratic values of this country and the right of others to disagree with me. I will now refrain from further political comment on this forum and confine my remarks to musical and cultural matters.
Its about freedom of speech and hypocrisy over impartiality - its not a left wing issue at all - Clarkson has condemned it for heavens sake

Perhaps I should clarify that my "centrist dad" comment was quoting Owen Jones's description of Lineker? I'm sure he meant it disparagingly!
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

He insisted otherwise. Just n honest description with no disparagement intended.

Yes indeed. And we are seeing the consequences of allowing that freedom to be recklessly cast aside, admittedly sometimes under duress, in the past. All of the lessons of the last few years need to be learned. The BBC and others haven’t just changed overnight.

Incidentally, the sight of Alistair Campbell standing up as a champion of truth and free speech is pretty bloody galling. One could mention others.
