Pity that the management(esp. government) reaction will be "only 700 signatures, ignore it", completely overlooking the category from which those signatures originate.
No, it will more likely be "I don't care how many but they're only composers anyway, so nothing to see here..."

https://www.change.org/p/stop-the-pl...he-bbc-singers , on the other hand, has now reached almost 105,000 signatures, most of which are presumably not from composers...

Slippeddisc.com says it has obtained a copy of a leaked letter sent from the acting co-directors of the BBC Singers to Richard Sharp, chairman of the BBC. Brace yourselves...

            Blimey, that is some letter.

Lets hope it has the desired effects.

I would like to think this would be a merde meet dyson device situation, but it concerns the arts (boo, hiss) and, even worse, a tiny subset of that hated sector, viz classical music, which in today's political climate is eminently ignorable, so messy outcome unlikely.
What I find so very depressing is the depth and breadth of ignorance on display, yet again, by those who are paid public money to know what they are in charge of and make informed decisions. But then it is the MO now from Westminster down so I cannot be surprised.

Savage cuts suggest a cadre of bosses has forgotten what public service broadcasting is, says Paul Hughes, former director of the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Chorus and the BBC Singers

... as Paul Hughes says, "I no longer know if the BBC is a public service broadcaster; I don’t recognise it any more, or its values. If it no longer exists to do that which others cannot or will not, then what is it for?"

Here's an excellent article by Andrew Mellor which illustrates perfectly the BBC hierarchy's aversion to classical music...

The vast majority won’t miss the nation’s best professional chamber choir, because they were so rarely given the chance to see it

Absolutely incendiary; and it frankly makes my and others' criticisms on this forum of Radio 3 seem as tame as the vicar at the annual church fete complaining about the barbecue. I fervently hope this letter gets the widest possible public exposure. Let's see what we can do.

For what it's worth, most of my listings pages now contain a header with a link to the petition and another to 'latest news', currently to the Slipped Disc article about the leaked letter.
