It's not the first attempt to get rid of inconvenient rules (eg Owen Paterson) and with the current set-up won't be the last. In some respects I don't consider this to be as much of a concern as some of the other bits of rule changing that have been going on such as right to protest, police powers, immigration etc. Resignations may send a signal but don't achieve much in the way of lessons learnt (except to get better at not being found out?) or improved outcomes for the country if the replacements are only going to come from the same cesspit as the offender and continue to operate in the same "me first, party second, country nowhere" manner.

"in future ministers are likely to face making a “public apology, remedial action, or removal of ministerial salary for a period” if they retain the confidence of the prime minister"

"The adviser, currently Christopher Geidt, a former aide to the Queen, will in future be able to instigate investigations but only with the consent of the prime minister"

"[The prime minister] has also rewritten the foreword to the code, removing all references to honesty, integrity, transparency and accountability"
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Johnson wasn't given the epithet "UK's Trump" for nothing - he'll carry most of the Tory party with him, being an MP especially with a government job, is just too valuable for future employment based on favours given, to be given up for mere morality.

Sue Gray’s investigation into Partygate underlines how much will have to be done to disinfect our government institutions when Mr Johnson is finally thrown out

It's difficult to understand how anyone could avoid multiple FPNs on the grounds of Downing Street being their place of work, and they were (or thought they were) 'at work'. Yet they had no idea of what was going on in their place of work. Make a complete pig's ear of being Foreign Secretary and you may still be rewarded with the chance to make a pig's ear of the top job. Unlikely? Well, yes: it's just my imagination running riot! Couldn't happen. Nolan rules OK.

Now, I can't for the life of me think why he should have done that.
