Half the Democrats supported it, only two of the Republicans.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

A fuller edit of that same debate reveals, perhaps, a more hopeful slant than that of raw numbers. It also has to be acknowledged, though, that the Republicans' total was boosted by a 'bipartisan' swing from Democrats.

This article has popped up on my screen of possibly interesting subjects as one that might possibly re-engage discussion in a non-party partisan way acceptable to the estimable guardians of the forum guidelines. I've thought about this quite a lot ever since lat-literal's effective departure from these parts, and the anxiety I felt at the time which made my cry off from the responsibility I felt as I witnessed him to all intents drifting into a polluted sea of conflicted ideas he was struggling with, in which he would end up falling prey to alt-right ideas. At the time I just felt too insecure in myself and too preoccupied with other time-consuming stuff to stick around.

The premises as outlined are, I believe, more unjversally applicable than just for America in a world dominated by the fortunes of global capitalist interests. There may be some point in the argument that in tackling the radical post-Trumpian right, here as there, as false myths-based and in bad faith, the left can draw on principles of much longer standing, historically, whose narratives have been borne out, time and time again, as being the lessons of history.
