    A new acronym - MCB

I learned a new acronym just now - MCB.

    See https://www.theguardian.com/environm...wn-destruction for an explanation.

I agree with many of the concerns expressed in that article.

“If it were really so serious, someone would stop us.” Heard (inaudibly) every day now.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Does an acronym have to be pronounceable?

I think it was chosen so as to sound less offensive than the original phrase.

Excellent article - we cannot separate out climate change from biodiversity and nature . The father figure of this interconnectedness idea James Lovelock wrote in a similar vein in the Guardian last week. A friend of mine made a film about Lovelock in the late eighties when the word Gaia was not on everyone’s lips - some in the office thought he was a bit of an out there crank. Now it’s more or less mainstream thinking . Problem is since then we’ve lost millions of species (ok that happens anyway and gained new ones ) trashed irreplaceable habitats and seen atmospheric CO2 go up from 360 odd ppm to 410.

Dr Tamsin Edwards on Private Passions today was rather more diplomatic about individual action not being a substitute for national/corporate action. The difficulty is that now the problem seems just too big for individuals to feel they can do anything about it which leads to the "what's the point" reaction. However without a range of small actions that people can take, even if insignificant/ineffectual in the grand scheme of things, any attempt on the bigger scale that is necessary is vulnerable to rejection in my opinion, especially where it would impact noticeably and/or directly on people's choices.
But up against this sort of behaviour,(coupled with Sunak's recent Budget pro air-travel message) https://www.theguardian.com/environm...taff-every-day
what chance of necessary action being taken at high level and what incentive for anyone to change their lifestyle choices?
I suppose it's why the PM didn't see anything amiss with flying to a private social function from COP26.

I'm all for small actions. There's a small item in today's paper about a young boy whose action is to not let the tap run while he's doing his teeth; so, every time he brushes he's reminding himself of his promise to help the planet. When he's older he might organise a campaign, write a book or an influential article which encourages others to take actions, however small to begin with.

That was Willie John McBride you're talking about. As well as playing for Ireland, and The Lions, he made a trip or two to the Green Fields of France.
